EXTRACT FROM THE CHINA STATION GENERAL LETTER NO.I (Period 29th June 9th August 1925).

I

H.M.A.S."BRISBANE" sailed for Tarakan and

Thursday Island on the 3rd August, the date originally

arranged by the Australian Government. She had been at Hong Kong the whole of July, when the situation was most tense and during part of the time no other cruiser was available. The Commodore, Hong Kong, reports that during this period very valuable work was performed by the officers and men in connection with the maintenance of Naval and Military services and he desires to place on record his appreciation of all they have done under trying and

difficult circumstances. I shall have much pleasure in

communicating this to H.E. The Governor-General and I

regret that no opportunity occurred for me to inspect the

ship before her departure.
